Iyengar Yoga Tradition - Balancing Rocks Yoga Studio Singapore

The Iyengar Yoga Tradition

Classes

At the Balancing Rocks Studio-Iyengar Yoga, the following types of classes are available:

Class Types

General - Open Class

This is suitable for participants that are interested in learning Iyengar Yoga based on the syllabus laid out by BKS Iyengar.

In order to help participants-to-be to determine which are the classes that will be suitable for them.

Here at Balancing Rocks studio, these are the levels (that are currently available) to provide a guide for participants to see where they should start attending classes:

a] Level 1

For this class type, participants are taught to make one aware of one's own body, the body's movements, stability, capacity, co-ordination, flexibility and firmness.

The participants are first taught with simple asanas (postures) to provide a foundation. This foundation gives a fundamental intelligence, which is known as "base intelligence" or body intelligence. For instance, the intelligence in the bottom of the feet, heels, arches, toes, inner and outer edges of the feet while performing different asanas.

Participants attending this class type, range from total beginners (no experience in any form of yoga) to practitioners (with 8-15 years of experience in other form of yoga). These classes help build up one foundation that is needed for further learning.

b] Level 2

If Level 1 is like learning "A, B, C", then Level 2 will be like learning "A is for Apple, B is for Boy". Usually, the students start to attend this class type after attending Level 1. This is to ensure the foundation has already been internalised, such as "how the turning action should be for the feet, knee, thigh for Standing asanas".

Participants attending this class type, range from practitioners with Balancing Rocks from 6 months to at least 1 year (some of these practitioners could be already practising other form of yoga or Iyengar yoga for more than 5 years).

Specialised Program [with Personal Permission from BKS Iyengar]

These programs came about because of demands and requests from participants. These programs at Balancing Rocks Studio were started with the personal blessings from BKS Iyengar to Lee Eng Kiat and not started according to one's whim and fancy.

Potential participants should be discerning on this, you can always write to RIMYI (Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute) to clarify if there is an instructor or centre that you find conducting such classes but doesn't seem to qualify to do so. For details, www.bksiyengar.com.

At this moment, there are two Specialised Programs being taught at Balancing Rocks Studio :

1] Back Care Program for Chronic Back Issue (8 Week)

2] Restorative Program for Breast Cancer Patients (8 Week)

Personalised Sessions [for Therapeutic cases with Personal Permission from BKS Iyengar]

Lee Eng Kiat is lucky to have the opportunity to get personal guidance in dealing with Therapeutic cases for almost 20 months directly under his Guru/teacher - BKS Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar. He is currently the only one residing in Singapore to have gotten personal guidance from both of them.

His learning was most intense when he spent an extended period of 15 months in Pune, India, to have the hands-on experience daily (except Sunday), and dealing with wide ranging of cases. And for subsequent study trips, he continues to spend time assisting in the remedial classes at RIMYI.

At Balancing Rocks Studio, he shares this knowledge with those in need mainly through Personalised Sessions.

There are many success stories till date, and his participants are more than happy to share with anyone who may be interested to know more. Some of the cases that were dealt with in 2011 are listed below, and some participants have provided a written account of their experience, and you can find them at the "Experience Sharing" section.
